Modern Pelagic Whaling (1925 - )
Britain claimed sovereignty over all the Antartic islands,
and whaling was therefore dependant on leases from the Crown.
The Norwegians were therefore forced to find ways of catching whales in the open sea outside the territorial limits of other countries.
This is what most people think is the beginning, with the big factory ships. I will finish my little version by showing you some photos from this period. They are from my own, my family or friends experience. Some of the photos are even copyrighted, so please don't steel too much.

The photo to the left is factory ship "Sir James Clark Ross". It is from my brother's memories. Picture to the right is factory ship Balaena, and I have lots of good memories from this ship.
My father worked as an engineer and my uncle as a wireless operator, for years. This ship was operated by Bugge & Krogh Hansen, Tønsberg.
